Grandma & Isabella

Director / Director of Photography / Producer

Filmed intermittently over four years, Grandma & Isabella is a poetic, observational documentary centered on Livina and her great-granddaughter, Isabella. Following a 'day in the life' narrative and chronological order, this short film begins in the morning when Isabella is four years old and concludes at night with her at age eight.

Livina (or as everyone calls her, 'Grandma') has been caring for her family most of her life, first as a mother and now as a great-grandmother. She lives in a two-bedroom apartment in Rockaway, Queens, with her husband, daughter, grandson, and Isabella. This short documentary, currently in post-production, is a celebration of 'Grandma' as the matriarch and anchor for her family, recognizing her for the consistency and love she has provided while acknowledging the frustration and sheer energy required for this type of work.
