Tell Them You Love Me explores the story of Anna Stubblefield, a professor who becomes embroiled in a controversial affair with Derrick Johnson, a non-verbal man with cerebral palsy. Anna claims she unlocked Derrick's mind from his body by teaching him to communicate using a keyboard. The relationship that followed led to a criminal trial that challenged perceptions of disability and the nature of consent.
As one of the directors of photography for the U.S. production unit of this feature documentary, I filmed observational footage of Derrick and his family at their home and within their community.
