After the Wave depicts Sarah, a dental anesthesia resident at a public hospital in the Bronx who was assigned to a temporary COVID-19 ICU in Spring 2020. Through phone recordings, Sarah recounts her time there and reflects on her ability to now process the experience. The film selectively overlays line-drawn animations with observational scenes of Sarah’s life as a resident, musician, and athlete.
